A few weekends ago, we took a drive to Eugene, OR to visit the Oregon Air and Space Museum. This is truly a little aviation gem. We had never heard about it and came across it via Tripadvisor. We were warmly greeted by two people and were offered a guided tour. There was a group of young boys (I’m guessing a church group or a Boy Scout troop) that were there at the same time. Our video’s audio is a little sketchy due to the wide-open hangar space and the competing noise. 😉 We really enjoyed our tour and learned a lot of interesting information. The kids were able to get inside and play inside a few of the aircraft, which they, of course, thought was awesome! We also met the wife of the gentleman who made the thousands of models that are on display at the museum. If I understood correctly, he is also the one who started the museum.
The Oregon Air and Space Museum started in August 1991. You can find numerous full-size aircraft, flight suits and gear, aircraft engines, a space timeline, and thousands of airplane models. The museum also offers a gift shop with models, jewelry, t-shirts, hats and much more. OASM is a nonprofit, tax exempt organization and relies entirely on donations, admissions, grants and memberships for support. So if you live in the area or want a fun day-trip adventure, make sure to check out the Oregon Air and Space Museum. You won’t regret it!
